“The CD is dead”, EMI Music CEO

I have not purchased a CD since 1996, ever since I have downloaded and purchased online or listened to my own collection of CDs. So this statement really comes to no surprise to me, If anything it is late. I still consider buying CDs if they have extra value added, such as special tracks or a nice bnooklet with lyrics and information. But mostly for the excellent quality of the sound that only a CD can offer since the music has not been compressed or reduced in its frequency and dynamic range.

I can not support listening to 128bit encoded mp3 files, I can simply hear how bad the resolution is. If you own decent HiFi equipment you can clearly hear the difference. For on the go it is sufficient though, but even on the iPod I prefer a better quality since there is lots of space! For a few years now I have my entire CD collection transferred to my computer using lossless compression. Nearly perfect sound quality! So now go on and read what EMI’s Chairman had to say about why the CD is dead.
