Spaceships made of ICE: Donut shaped inflatable large vessel

Y98 0098ZbThis looks indeed different from any concepts I have heard of. An inflatable donut shaped spaceship will be put into orbit or the L points where then the outer coating will contain a layer that will be filled with and store water/ice (once it freezes of course) that will then serve as radiation shield, temperature equalizer, propulsion fuel (Hydrogen) and water for the crew to drink. The crew would also benefit from artificial gravity and 2 stories going all around the spaceship.

Interesting quote from the description: “At Earth’s distance from the sun, a ship coated with Sheldahl Part Number G404300 will cool to -110 Celsius. This coating is Dupont FPE Teflon on 0.1 micron Silver, on .1 micron nickel. It costs $1000 per square meter in 1 meter quantities. They can really drop cost for 10,000 square meter orders. They are a relatively small company. a = .1,  e= .85,  5 mill thick, a/e gives –> -110 Celsius,  -170 Kelvin at 1 A.U.

We still haven’t answered the key question:  will it fly apart?”

Looks amazing and seems viable, check it out here.
