  • Android (“idroid”) Available For Download and Install for iPhone 2G and 3G (jailbroken)

Android Running on iPhoneA Port of Android for iPhone 3G ( and iPhone 2G) called “idroid” is now available for download. Yes, you read that correctly.

You will need a list of things that you can find here with instructions on how to get it done. PC World will walk you through it, step by step:

“Although this port does everything that you expect your smartphone to be able to do, it isn’t usable for day-to-day activities just yet–I haven’t implemented any power-management functions, so a fully charged iPhone running Android will last only an hour or so.

A few bugs and performance issues remain, too, so while the phone will be usable, it won’t be fast. If you do something unexpected (such as forcing the iPhone off), there is a small chance that you may end up restoring your device. However, it is impossible for any bugs to brick or disable your iPhone permanently.”

  • PureMobile offers unlocked iPhone/iPhone 3G that works with USA Carriers

PureMobile is offering an apparently hardware/software hacked iPhone on their site with no service plan or contract required. Here is from their (now outdated iPhone model, new iPhone 3G links at the end of this article) product page:

“Before you purchase, please note the following:

  • iPhone FTP app from Transmit in the “near future”? We can hope, can we?

I got an answer from Panic regarding Transmit for iPhone development in the near future. I think this good news and we can hope (maybe):

transmit_iphone.png“Indeed, we get a lot of email about this. We’re currently busy working on our desktop apps, but we’re very excited about iPhone development, and hope to work on some ideas in the near future.”

  • Apple Brazil: Confirmed, Claro bringing iPhone to Brazil first, on Friday 26th 2008

Looks like we just got confirmation through Apple’s Brazil website (http://www.apple.com/br/iphone/buy/) that Brazilian mobile operator Claro is bringing the iPhone to the brazilian market tomorrow on Friday September 26, 2008. The “Where to Buy” page states that the iPhone is “already available at all Claro stores around the country.”

  • Apple Brazil: iPhone cleared by Anatel to be sold in Brazil

Brazil’s ANATEL, the National Agency of Telecomunications, a governmental body that approves telecom products before they can be sold in the country, today officially cleared Apple’s iPhone for commercial use. Specified and approved are the frequencies that are going to be used, designations, power levels and the associated name of the technology. Also listed are the maximum transfer speeds that are marked as: 3, 11 and 54 Mbit/s.

    ANATEL iPhone

Also approved by the document is its use as wireless (wifi) access terminal.

Another note mentions that the device must be sold with battery and charger that have been cleared by ANATEL. The final requirement is a sticker or marking on the device to make it known that it has been approved for use by ANATEL.

Find the link to the original document here: http://sistemas.anatel.gov.br/sgch/Certificado/HomologacaoPICC.asp?consulta=1&?NumRFGCT=146908

I believe this was the biggest hurdle for Apple to take in Brazil and that we should be seeing the device for sale either on August 22, 2008 or shortly thereafter.

  • Apple introduces an iPhone G3 dock

iphone3g-outfit-product2.png Apple introduces an iPhone G3 dock.

This one looks even nicer than the previous model. It leaves the front entirely free and gives more support from the back.

With the iPhone 3G Dock, you get easy access to a USB port for syncing or charging and an audio line out port for connecting to powered speakers. You can even conduct speakerphone calls with your iPhone 3G in its dock.

Here are some ways you can use the iPhone 3G Dock:

Connect the dock to your computer with the USB cable that came with your iPhone 3G, then place your iPhone 3G in the dock to sync and charge the battery. No more reaching behind the computer to plug it in.

Connect the dock to an electrical outlet using an Apple USB Power Adapter (included with your iPhone 3G), then place your iPhone 3G in the dock to charge the battery.

Connect the dock to a stereo or speakers using an AV cable or a stereo audio cable to play music from iPhone 3G.

Place your iPhone 3G in the dock and enjoy clear audio during speaker phone calls thanks to special audio porting.

Important note: The iPhone 3G Dock is not compatible with the original iPhone.
