  • Apple iCal Error: Brasilian iCal shows 2x February 14th, 2009

This is just incredible. The february of 2009 is showing me two times the 14th in iCal, then followed by monday the 16th. So what happened to the 15th? Am I going to skip a day and how do I mark it? Who else has this in their iCal? Apparently I am not alone, with this. A few of my friends confirmed they have the same problem showing.

  • Apple Brazil: Apple Shop Paulista Opens Officially

Today at 6:30pm the Apple Shop at FNAC Paulista was officially opened with a white ribbon cutting. Present at the event where, among others, the President of Apple Brazil, Apple Brazil’s Marketing Director and the Director General of FNAC in Brasil, who gave a short speech, welcoming everyone and thanking all the Apple Fan’s for their presence. The crowd was about 50 to 60 strong and somewhat timid, but gave applause after the cutting. Two photographers (not sure if bloggers, they did not look professional, but Mr. Shapiro and Co. gave a performance anyway) took some pictures. Customers where served Champagne and canapes, and a few blond, long haired, tall girls dressed in Apple Black guaranteed that eyes had something to look at other than Apple’s product line that was presented on the usual woodden tables with all devices functional for people to play with.

I observed that there where many accessories available now that where missing before, including a few mobileme boxes that went for R$189 ($119), not far off from the original price. One of the Apple consultants pointed out that pricing would gradually fall until christmas and that many of the accessories still missing would be on the shelves soon. Currently there are 2 consultants tending to curious clients visiting the Apple Shop at FNAC Paulista. Both are very friendly and knowledgeable. Since they are not salespeople and but consultants they are there for giving advice and answers to curious questions, and unlike sales people, they took time to talk with me for over 15 minutes and answer my questions.

Unfortunately I did not manage to talk to Mr. Shapiro, Apple Brazil’s President. I would have asked him when the iPhone will arrive here. All in all things are looking up. Keep you posted.

  • Sao Paulo, Brazil hit by 5.2 Earthquake

Today, 4/22/2008 at 9:05pm Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba and several other cities felt a tremor of 5.2 on the Richter scale. People reporting in to police and authorities said the earthquake lasted about 5 seconds and was long enough to cause things to fall off shelves and walls as well as making them feel dizzy. The epicenter, according to the Sao Paulo Seismological Observatory, was 270km east in the Atlantic Ocean.

There are no reports of injuries or damage to structures as of 10pm today. I personally was working on my computer and did not feel a thing.

  • Apple Brazil: Exploring the introduction, sale and production of iPhone and iPods in Brazil

Camila Fusco from the brazilian business publication “Exame” reports that one of the major hurdles for introducing Apple products and also iPods and iPhone in Brazil is the high rate of smuggling and the very high import taxes. Even today Apple Brazil only consists of 10 officially hired workers. It seems though that the potencial for the local cellphone market growth has come to the attention of Apple who supposedly had talks with the federal government in search for tax incentives and other benefits with the goal of producing the iPhone in Brazil and bypassing the import taxes.

It seems now that Apple has decided to enter the brazilian market with a two step strategy: first by trying to increase their overall marketshare with the launch of the iPhone together with a telecom provider, like they have done in other countries and second, should enough demand justify the investment, the local production of iPhones and then also iPods in Brazil. The numbers cited for justifying local production are 80000 phones per month sold or almost equivalent to 1 million phones per year. Executives also visited several companies that today produce cellphones for other manufacturers like Sony Ericsson and Nokia, located in the State of Sao Paulo.

“Vivo” is being named as the safest bet for bringing the iPhone to market in Brazil. Vivo is part of the Telefonica group. Britains O2 also is part of the Telefonica group. Another important factor Apple is considering is that Brazil is the 6th largest cellphone market in the world and this can not be neglected. But the price of the iPhone would have to be very atractive for it to sell the way Apple would deem it viable for production in country. Apple setting up production of iPhones and iPods in Brazil could mean the first step for also producing computers in the futures.

  • Gol Flight 1907 Amazon Crash: Predicted and with proof on January 14, 2003 by Medium and Professor Jucelino da Luz

738GloOk, hold on to your seats for this one: According to brazilian news “terra online”, this crash was predicted by Jucelino da Luz over 3 years ago. His premonitions about this accident occurred up until one month ago. He “saw” this accident happen for the last 3 years and during this period he sent 25 letters regarding this incident, all legally notarized, to the airlines in order to avoid the disaster. “I was very sad about this disaster, people have no responsibility”, he said. In his letters he described the date, time, location, flight number and even who was going to be inside the planes, as for example the journalist Joe Sharkey. One of these warning letters was notarized and registered last monday. Until yesterday, october 4, the airline Gol did not confirm if they had received the letters or not. Jucelino said he will send the letters to the legal system: “I did my part, my duty”. He even gives the names of those guilty of this accident.
